PLATO Learning® is excited to announce several new features now available with the Fall 2012 Release to the vCourses.
PLATO Learning curriculum has always been rigorous, research-based, and pedagogically sound, while aligning to state and national standards and best practices. With the growing online learning market, PLATO has continuously designed online learning solutions to meet the market needs. This fall refreshed curriculum will be available for improved coverage to common core, increased depth of courses, and real world relationships to STEM.
English 11 and 12
The English 11 and 12 Semesters A and B courses continue the language arts refresh and tighter alignment to common core at 100%. Threaded discussions are added to each unit and lesson activities are added to every unit. In previous versions of English, some documents existed as PDF offline teacher graded activities. These have been converted to online activities. The word documents that replace these PDFs are accessible two ways. One, from within the tutorial and two, as a lesson activity via our standard digital drop box activity format.
English 11 and 12 will have an added research paper, play, and novel which all increase the depth and rigor of the English course. Lesson designs, tutorials, and supplementary examples are based on real world data and scenarios related to STEM careers. See the links below for more information available for these courses:
English 11B v2.0
Algebra 1 and 2
Algebra 1 and 2 Semesters A and B have both been restructured, based on the recommended Common Core scope and sequence for high school. Most clearly, the scope and sequence requires higher‐level learning at an earlier stage. The recommended Common Core scope and sequence for Algebra 1 includes a final unit addressing 8 standards from the CCSS HS Probability and Statistics strand. Algebra 2 includes a final unit addressing 10 standards from the CCSS HS Probability and Statistics strand. See the link below for more information available for these courses:
PLATO platform enhancements will impact all platforms continuing to provide you with an easy to use interface to maintain existing coursework and improve student access and to current content without disruption of the daily management and oversight of students and progress.
Flash Emulator for iPads
While PLATO is creating all new courseware in a more universally compatible HTML5 format, the vast majority of our content is rendered in Flash and therefore incompatible with the Apple® iPad. We have identified a flash emulator solution called Puffin which will render flash content "in the cloud" before being sent to the device allowing students to interact with PLATO content on an iPad. See the link below for more information:
Progress Fraud Protection
We have implemented progress fruad protection which will prohibit students from having a second content window open while taking a mastery test. See the link below for more informaiton:
