How to Manage Classes in PLATO Courseware

Explanation

In PLATO® Courseware, Instructors have the ability to make changes to Class settings, scoring Discussions and Dropbox Activities, withdrawing Learners, previewing content, review completed work, edit status, and much more.

How To

An Instructor can edit Class settings with the following directions:

  1. Click on Courses tab
  2. Click on My Classes
  3. Under Quick Actions, click on Click to View Class Details icon

  1. Click on Class Curriculum on the left side of the screen
  2. In the Global Setttings box, select any of the following:
  • Limit Attempts to Unlock Mastery Tests and select the number of attempts allowed
  • Hide all Graded Discussions
  • Hide all Dropboxes
  • Hide all Pretests
  • Hide All Posttests
  1. Click on Save Changes.

How to use Class Curriculum for your Classes:

  1. Click on the Courses tab
  2. Click on My Classes
  3. Under Quick Actions click on Click to View Class Details icon
  4. Click on Class Curriculum on the left side of the screen
  5. Click on the arrow to the left of the curriculum (Unit and Module) or click on a Pretest, Posttest, or End of Semester test
  6. For Units and Modules, click on the Unit or module. Then, you can click on Move Up to move that unit.module up in the course, Move Down to move that unit/module down in the course, Lock to lock that particular unit/module, or Hide to hide the unit/module.
  7. For Pretests, Posttests, and End of Semester tests you only have the option to Hide or Lock
  8. Click on Save Changes


How to View/Grade Graded Discussions and Dropbox Activities:

Note: When a student(s) submit an activity for scoring, Instructors in the Class will be notified via Ready to Score in Sensei. Refer to Ready to Score for details.

  1. Click on Courses tab
  2. Click on My Classes
  3. Under Quick Actions, click on Click to View Class Details icon
  4. To view/score a Graded Discussion, click on Class Curriculum and expand the course to drill down to the activity and click View.
  1. You can submit a post, read posts for all Learners or select a specific Learner in order to score the Learner.
  2. If you select a specific Learner, you can score their Graded Discussion by entering a score from 0-100 and clicking save.
  3. To view/score the Dropbox Activity for a Learner, select a Learner from the dropdown menu.
  4. Click on the file to download and review what the learner submitted and then Score 0-100 or Return without score, add comments and click Save.  This will notify the learner. History and Comments will show you all of the activity for that dropbox activity for the specific Learner. 

How to Preview Content

  1. Click on Courses tab
  2. Click on My Classes
  3. Under Quick Actions, click on Click to View Class Details icon
  4. To preview lesson content, click on Class Curriculum and expand the course to drill down to the unit, module, activity and click View.

Viewing Tests and Tutorial Progress

Educators have the ability to see the work that learners have completed within tutorials by opening the tutorial in review mode from the Plato Courseware application. This includes responses to lesson activities, constructed response and technology-enhanced items, as well as information on which parts of the tutorial have been viewed. 

Educators can also review completed mastery tests, pre/post test to see students answers along with answer keys.

To review students completed items:

  1. Go to the Class Summary
  2. Click on Enrolled Learners
  3. Then click on the pencil icon to view and manage for the selected learner.

 

Note: Viewing learner answers for tutorials and tests is only available in our newest courses (HTML5 format (EAP)). This functionality is not available in our legacy content. If the student has completed the tutorial and the icon is not displayed, the content uses a format that does not offer the functionality to view it here. How to Withdraw a Learner from the class:

  1. Click on Courses tab
  2. Click on My Classes
  3. Under Quick Actions, click on Click to View Class Details icon
  4. Click on Enrolled Learners on the left side of the page.
  5. Check off the Learner you wish to withdraw.

  1. Click on Actions and then Withdraw Learner

How to View Reports from within the Class:

  1. Go to the Courses tab.
  2. Select My Classes from the dropdown.
  3. Click on the screen and magnifying glass under "Quick Actions"
  4. Select Enrolled Learners from the menu on the left.
  5. Click on the bar graph to the right of the student's name

  1. Select either the Learner Progress,  Graphic Learner Progress, or the Detailed Score Report.  Each report will open in a new window in PDF format.
