# What Are the Differences in Versions of Algebra 1 in Plato Courseware?

## Explanation

The new versions (3.0) of Algebra 1 Semesters A and B have been refreshed to add 21st century skills and more comprehensive objective coverage.

## Resolution

Key enhancements to the Algebra 1 content include:

- 20% new content
- Threaded discussions and unit activities added to every unit (v2.0 did not have these types of activities)
- The addition of a play and a novel
- A research paper added to Semester B
- Increased rigor in the pretest and end of semester tests
- Microsoft Word based lesson activities

### How long will Algebra 1 version 2.0 be available?

PLATO Courses Algebra 1, version 2.0 will be available until 6/1/13. In the Content mini-app, a retirement icon displays next to the version 2 courses indicating this retirement date. It gives Learners the ability to use the existing courses that are currently assigned to complete their assignment. It also makes the retirement visible to educators while also making it unavailable to assign.

If you are creating a new assignment for Algebra 1, use version 3.0 of the courses. Learners can continue to work in existing assignments from Algebra 1 version 2.0 until the end of the 2012-2013 school year.

**Note**: Version 3.0 contains refreshed content which includes different activity types from version to version. For example, offline activities are now a module containing a tutorial, application, and mastery test or a digital drop box activity. Therefore, Learner progress data can only be applied using the Apply Past Credit feature if the activity types are the same in both versions.
