ERROR: "Internet Explorer has stopped working" when launching Shockwave courseware"

Explanation

If a user profile does not have Modify permissions to install and run Shockwave activities, you may experience the following issues:

  • Students prompted to install shockwave after installed as admin on the workstation
  • Error: "Internet Explorer has stopped working" when launching Shockwave courseware
  • Error: "the JBImageLib.txt file list has not been saved...the getPref result was corrupt 0" when exiting Shockwave courseware

Resolution

If you are an admin and you have students with restricted rights on the workstation, follow these steps to copy necessary folders and verify permissions: 

Login to the computer as local admin

Uninstall and reinstall the Adobe Shockwave Player Installer and PLATO Xtras plug-ins: 

  1. Uninstall the Shockwave Player Adobe's Macromedia Web Player Download page.
  2. Download and install the Adobe Shockwave Player Installer.
  3. Download and install the PLATO Xtras plug-ins.   Close the window when the installation has completed.

Copy the Shockwave Folder from C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Application Data\Macromedia to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Macromedia.

**If the Macromedia folder is not shown here, create the Macromedia folder.

Verify permissions for the Users group in the following folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Macromedia

  • Right-click Macromedia and select Properties
  • Click the Security tab
  • Select the Users group
  • Set Modify permissions
  • Click Ok

 
C:\Windows\System32\MACROMED

  • Right-click Macromedia and select Properties
  • Click the Security tab
  • Select the Users group
  • Set Modify permissions
  • Click Ok
  • Copy the Download folder from the All Users Xtras folder to the C:\Windows\System32\MACROMED\Shockwave 10\Xtras

If this is not successful and you are on a local-area (building) network, ask a network administrator to do the following:

1.Log in to the workstation as a local administrator and install the Shockwave Player on the affected workstations.  Give users Read & Execute permissions to the C:\Windows\System32\Macromed folder on the workstations. This is where Flash, Shockwave, and Authorware plug-ins are installed.

2.Deploy ("push out") the update to all workstations on Active Directory using the gpupdate/enforce comm
